Our Story
The Northern AI Lab is a flagship initiative of the HOPin Academy. As the first AI lab to be established in the heart of northern Ghana, the journey began with the realisation that AI adoption and progress in Ghana is overly concentrated in the south further deepening the already existing digital divide. Thus the need to establish a lab that provides community members with access and resources to increase the adoption and development of responsible AI solutions. From strengthening food security to improving healthcare access, we believe that AI should serve the needs of the community. We are on a mission to position Northern Ghana as a key contributor in the AI ecosystem in Ghana.

At the Northern AI Lab, we encourage curiosity, diverse perspectives and collaboration, that is why we work together with higher education institutions, students, independent AI researchers, start-ups, entrepreneurs, and policy experts to identify community-centred problems and design responsible AI solutions to address them.

At the Northern AI Lab, our quest to deliver meaningful impact is driven by research, evidence-based decisions and continuous learning in identifying systemic and socio-economic issues that can be addressed with AI in Northern Ghana.
